Mission
Our curriculum has been developed on the basis of the following principles:
- Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Each person possesses a unique combination of these nine intelligences and learns through sounds, movement, music, images etc.
- Total Physical Response. Students imitate and respond to commands that require physical movement.
- The Rassias Method. It is based on dramatic communication between the educator and the children. Both the face and the body of the educator are expressive and convey messages, thus helping the child better comprehend the foreign language.
The aim of the Foreign Language Centre is for the children to:
- Adopt a positive attitude towards English and feel confident
- Experience English through empirical activities (life activities)
- Experience belonging to a group of peers
- Express themselves through English in a variety of ways (e.g. through dramatisation, natural sciences, art etc.)
- Realise that our backgrounds (our “roots”) are not the only ones that define us and that each one of us has their own background that we bring into the learning process
How do we accomplish all the above:
- We have created a school environment that truly respects individual will, without the fear of error
- The methods used include art, dramatic play, music, natural sciences, mathematics etc.
- By celebrating certain intercultural traditions such as Halloween, Chinese New Year or Valentine’s Day, children get acquainted with other nations and their customs.
